Term 2 Classes

We will be kicking off term 2 with water colour painting, discover Optical art through our artist study of Victor Vasarely and learn some drawing techniques for the human face amongst other exciting projects.

At the end of term 1 we said farewell to our fabulous tutor Sharon Saunders.  We would like to thank Sharon for sharing her amazing skills with us all and look forward to seeing her again in holiday workshops in the near future. 

Anna will be returning as the tutor for Wednesday classes for term 2.

Classes will commence in Pukekohe for the term 2 on Monday 12th May, the 2nd week of term as usual.  If you would like to reserve a place for your child please email as soon as possible.

If your child was registered last term they will be re-registered this term automatically.  Please let us know ASAP if they do not require their place this term.

 

Class details:  After school Art and craft;         

   Monday and Wednesday groups (6 years +) 3.30pm – 4.30pm

   Tuesday group (9 years +) 3.30 – 4.30pm

 

We do have a couple of places available for these classes at present.  Please contact Anna on 09 238 1939 to register for this class, places are limited.

 

Housekeeping

Please ensure students wear old clothes to classes, school uniforms are expensive and some of our paints are not washable.

We always love to receive feedback whether positive or negative – it all helps us to grow. If you have any feedback you would like to share with us please contact us on anna@youngatart.co.nz.  We would also love to hear of any classes your child is particularly interested in attending.

All current Young at Art students can receive a 10% discount for our ‘Arty Party’s’ and also face painting, fairy, glam or gore parties & other entertainment available through Magical Masquerade Professional Face Painting (Anna with her other hat on!).  We also offer face painting and basic special FX workshops from time to time.  Please contact us for more information or check out www.magicalmasquerade.co.nz.

 

Recycling

We love to recycle at Young at Art!  If you have anything unwanted in your garage or home that may come in useful we would be very grateful!  Often the most random items can become an amazing inspirational project.

Workshop 1 – Deep Sea Creatures Tutor: Cherie Meerlo

Date: Tuesday 22nd & Wednesday 23rd April, 9am – 1pm (suitable for 5 – 14 yrs)
Create an imaginary, colourful and quirky creature from the deep blue sea. Your very own species, never seen before by man. You will get to play with funky fabric, ribbon, lace, wool, tassels, buttons, beads, pins and more! Just come along and we’ll go and explore.
Cost (for 2 days): $60.00

Workshop 2 – Gorgeous Glassware Tutor: Tara Murphy
Date: Thursday 24th April, 9am -1pm (suitable for 7 – 14 yrs)
Recycle old bottles into a flower vase and create your very own unique work of art. Design your personal creation using brightly coloured acrylic paints. Spectacular presents!
Cost (1 day): $35.00

Workshop 3 – Perfect Pen Holders Tutor: Cherie Meerlo
Dates: Monday 28th April & Tuesday 29th April, 9am -1pm (suitable for 5 – 14 yrs)
Create your very own pen or art supply holder using boxes, tubes and other exciting shapes. Decorate them with exciting materials to match your bedroom or art room. Practically perfect!
Cost (for 2 days): $60.00

Workshop 4 – Eggcellent Easter Eggs Tutor: Anna Molineux
Dates: Wednesday 30th April & Thursday 1st May, 9am – 1pm (suitable for 5 – 14 yrs)
Create an awesome giant Easter egg with papier mache, design your individual eggs with painted scenes, decorate with fun materials and create 3d characters to go inside. Absolutely funtastic!
Cost (for 2 days): $60.00

Workshop 5 – Personal Portraits (mixed media) Tutor: Anna Molineux
Dates: Friday 2nd May, 9am -1pm (suitable for 5 – 14 yrs)
Learn portrait drawing skills and a variety of mixed media techniques to create your personalised portrait. Perfect wall art!
Cost (1 day): $35.00

TERM 1 CLASSES

Classes will commence in Pukekohe for the term 1 on Monday 10th February, the 2nd week of term as usual. If you would like to reserve a place for your child please email as soon as possible. 

If your child was registered last term they will be re-registered this term automatically.  Please let us know ASAP if they do not require their place this term.

This term we will be studying Picasso portraits for our painty project and many other exciting mediums.

We do have a couple of places available for these classes at present. Please contact Anna on 09 238 1939 to register for this class, places are limited.

Franklin Children’s Arts Festival

Our Franklin Children’s Arts Festival is now a bi-annual event so our next festival will be in March 2015. We will be recruiting volunteers in October this year. Please let us know if you are interested in being part of our positive and creative team. We require volunteers with all skills not just artistic ones. ☺

Santa Parade 2013

Fantastic result at the Pukekohe Santa Parade, a well deserved first prize!!
Congratulations to all our students in attendance on the day and a big thank you to the families for all your support. Our prize money has been spent on lots of new art products, brushes etc.

Special Christmas Clay Weekend Workshop!!

FunWithClayA special Christmas Saturday morning workshop spread across two weeks in December. Creative Christmas clay decorations and plaques.

Learn many different ways to experience the medium of clay, then under-glaze your work with beautiful colours.

Final pieces will then be placed in the kiln to ensure fantastic and long lasting end results!  No experience necessary.  All materials supplied.

Workshop 1 – Gingerbread Houses

Gingerbread

Dates:  Friday 20th December, 9am -1pm   (suitable for 5 – 14 yrs)

Tutor:  Nicola Pressnell

In this fantastic workshop you will need lots of creative energy. We’ll show you the secret of making a gorgeous Gingerbread House using simple things like a shoe box, cotton wool, fabric, lace, buttons, straws and lots more exciting items from inside our workshop. Kids don’t forget to ask to help Mum to make some Gingerbread Biscuits to go inside!

Workshop 2 – ‘Christmas Variety’Cards                                                                   

Dates:  Mon 23rd December 2013, 9am-1pm (suitable for 5 – 14 yrs)

Create a variety of fabulous crafts in this festive action packed workshop including decorations, and card making.  Oodles of creative of fun to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

TERM 4 CLASSES

Classes will commence for the term 4 on Monday 21st October, the 2nd week of term as usual.  If you would like to reserve a place for your child please email as soon as possible, places are limited.

This term we will be creating giant puppets and creations for the Santa parade, painting project and Christmas decorations.

This term we will again be running our specialist Six week CLAY course (7yrs+) on a Thursday in Pukekohe, 3.45pm – 5.00pm, classes commence on Thursday 31st October. Projects this term include pinch pot pets and monsters, Christmas bowls and tree toppers.  The cost of this class is $120.00.

Class details  

Afterschool Art and craft:    Monday and Wednesday groups (6 years +) 3.30pm – 4.30pm;  Tuesday group (9 years +) 3.30 – 4.30pm

Six week Clay class:   Thursday (7 years +): 3.45-5pm

We will also be running a Saturday Christmas clay decoration workshop in Pukekohe on Saturday 7th and 14th December, $60 for both Saturdays, price includes all materials and kiln costs.

Young @ Art Exhibition 2013

A big thank you to all the students who exhibited artwork in the Young @ Art exhibition in the school holidays.  We have received fabulous feedback and you should all be very proud of your young artists.

All work will be for collection from the Richard Taylor Weta workshop from next week (Monday / Wednesday 3-5pm).  If you cannot collect at these times please contact Anna to arrange another time.

Santa Parade 2013

This term our after school students will be working on fabulous creations for the Pukekohe Santa Parade.

Date for you calendar for Pukekohe Santa Parade this year is Sunday 1st December.  If your child is a current after school student please advise if your child cannot attend.

Young@Art Exhibition – Sept/Oct 2013

Counting down to the Young @ Art exhibition at  the Community Gallery, Franklin Arts Centre, Pukekoheopening 26th September to Friday 11th October. This is open to all students current and past all mediums (including clay, sculpture etc), term time. holiday and home school.

If your child would like to exhibit their work please bring along to the Weta workshop Mon-Wed between 3-5pm or Thurs 3.45-5pm. We would love to show as much art work as possible. Opening night for all will be Thursday 26th September 5pm – 6.30pm. Looking forward to seeing all your guys work again.

Workshop 1 – ‘Terrific Tiles’ Clay – Pukekohe – Tutor: Sue Rogers

Date: Monday 30th Sept, 9am – 1pm (suitable for 7 – 14 yrs) Cost (1 day): $35.00 Design, create and carve these terrific tiles and then paint with oxides. Tiles will be fired and ready for collection two weeks after this one day workshop.

Workshop 2 – ‘Fabulous friendship’ Calligraphy – Pukekohe – Tutor: Ali Ryan

Date: Tuesday 1st Oct, 9am -1pm (suitable for 7 – 14 yrs) Cost (1 day): $35.00
Learn the basics of beautiful handwriting and then create a project turning your words into a work of art.

Workshop 3 – Marvellous Masks ‘Papier mache’ – Pukekohe – Tutor: Anna Molineux

Dates: Wed 2nd & Thurs 3rd Oct, 9am -1pm (suitable for 6 – 14 yrs) Cost (2 day): $58.00
Design, sculpt with clay and papier mache your marvellous mask. We will then paint and decorate our mask ready to wear or hang.

Workshop 4 – Dancing Dolls and Rocking Robots ‘Mixed media’ – Pukekohe – Tutor: Cherie Meerlo

Dates: Mon 7th & Tues 8th Oct, 9am – 1pm (suitable for 5 – 14 yrs) Cost (2 day): $60.00
Design and create your very own mixed media Rocking Robots and Dancing dolls, spectacular wall art.

Workshop 5 – Perfect Printing – Pukekohe – Tutor: Anna Molineux

Dates: Wed 9th – Thurs 10th Oct, 9am – 1pm (suitable for 5 – 14 yrs) Cost (2 day): $60.00
Learn a variety of printing techniques using every day objects. On day 1 we will create paper masterpieces and day 2 print and design on fabric. *Fabric squares will be provided , your child is free to bring a long a t-shirt or pillowcase if you prefer, 100% cotton is best.

Workshop 6 – Cupcake Collages – Drury – Tutor: Anna Molineux

Dates: Mon 30th Sept & Tues 1st Oct, 9am -1pm (suitable for 5 – 14 yrs) Cost (2 day): $60.00
Learn how to create your own interesting collage papers, design your cupcake and then collage away to create an amazing piece of artwork worthy of any wall.

Workshop 7 – Wonderful Watercolours – Drury – Tutor: Sharon Saunders

Dates: Mon 7th & Tues 8th Oct, 9am – 1pm (suitable for 6 – 14 yrs) Cost (2 day): $60.00
In this fabulous painting workshop discover a variety of watercolour techniques and then complete a beautiful finished piece of work ready to hang on your wall.

Dates: Mon 30th Sept & Tues 1st Oct, 9am -1pm (suitable for 5 -14 yrs) Cost (2 day): $58.00
Have fun with decorative fabric to create a fantail fish & a seascape weaving. You can embellish with quirky seaside finds.

Workshop 9 – ‘Fobots, Fairies and Fortresses’ Mixed Media/ Yard Art – Waiuku – Tutor: Cherie Meerlo

Breathe new life into everyday trash, create your very own interactive masterpiece using mostly recycled materials. On day 2 we will be creating a Fortress & Fairy Wonderland Felt tip holder.
